This is a steel grade in which the nickel content of SUS 304, a representative austenitic stainless steel grade, is increased and molybdenum is added to further improve corrosion resistance.
SUS304 with increased nickel and molybdenum addition= SUS316: Improved corrosion resistance (pitting corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, etc.)
SUS316 with higher nickel, lower carbon = SUS316L ... + Improved intergranular corrosion resistance
The "L" in SUS316L stands for low carbon.
Highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel is also suitable for drawing applications because of its low carbon content and high nickel content, resulting in low hardness in the annealed state and less work hardening.
Note that although non-magnetic in the solution heat-treated state, it becomes weakly magnetic after strong working.
This grade of steel is difficult to obtain due to its relatively small distribution volume among thin stainless steels, but we also manufacture such materials with custom specifications.

We can manufacture products in your desired hardness (finish).
Please consult with us first as some finishes may not be available depending on the thickness of the foil.
*In the case of ultra-thin foil, Soft materials such as annealed finish (BA, 2B) may not be supported due to the possibility of defects ( creasing, wrinkling, etc.).

Corrosion-resistant steel is a type of steel that protects against corrosion, making it essentially rustproof. Stainless steels are iron-based alloys containing a minimum of 10.5% chromium, which is sufficient to prevent rust by a surface barrier oxide film, the passive film.
The passive film is 1 to 3 nm (nanometers) thin, and with its self-healing function, it can be regenerated by using chromium in steel even if the film is broken under normal conditions. *The chromium content of 11% or more is required for passivation film to form.
However, even with passive film, depending on the operating environment (seawater, salt water, etc.), part of the passive film may be destroyed and localized corrosion (pitting corrosion) may occur.
The molybdenum added to SUS316/SUS316L has the function of restoring the destroyed passive film, making SUS316/SUS316L more corrosion resistant than SUS304, which does not contain molybdenum.
Corrosion resistance may also be affected by the small amount of carbon contained in stainless steel.
Carbon easily combines with chromium solidly dissolved in the substrate to form chromium carbides, which precipitate at the grain boundaries.
As a result, the area near the precipitated chromium carbides becomes low chromium, which reduces corrosion resistance and causes intergranular corrosion. In addition to carbon reduction, the addition of titanium and niobium is also effective in suppressing chromium carbide formation.
*For SUS316L (L=Low carbon), the carbon content is adjusted to be even lower.

We can make it to foils (less than 0.10 mm thick) in all the stainless steels we manufacture.
