Overview & Features

Stainless steel that is not easily magnetized even when a magnetic field is applied is referred to as "Non-magnetic stainless steel." Even in austenitic stainless steels such as SUS304 and SUS316L, which are commonly considered non-magnetic, the permeability increases as the cold working rate increases. In order to use the material in a non-magnetic state, there were issues such as keeping the processing rate low and insufficient strength.

This steel type is specifically designed with adjusted composition to maintain non-magnetism even at extremely high processing rates. With an exceptionally high strength of 500 HV, making it ideal for applications requiring both near-perfect non-magnetism and high springiness. Besides, soft-finished material can also be drawn.

This is the manufacturing range of coils and sheets we manufacture.

The typical values of magnetic permeability and mechanical properties of skin pass material and matirials processed to maximum strength are shown in the table below.

The figure below shows the correlation between rolling reduction, hardness, and magnetic permeability of non-magnetic stainless steels such as TNM-1.

Austenitic stainless steels represented by SUS304 are nonmagnetic in the solution (annealed)condition, but become magnetic when cold rolled,whereas TNM-1 has almost no increase in magnetic permeability even when the working ratio is increased, and maintains a magnetic permeability of 1.003 at a strength equivalent to SUS301-EH, which is in the nonmagnetic range.
